:   The Great Location Debate
With the web site now receiving over 40,000 hits per week, the opportunity is here to initiate discussion that not only promotes the sports of land sailing, ice yachting and speed sailing worldwide, but gets like minded people talking with intention of sharing knowledge, experience or even just ideas.

So, I am starting here with a subject that I have been researching for many years but have struggled to make much unbiased progress. This subject is that of location. The worlds most ideal locations for sailing FAST, on all mediums of land, ice or water.

Don't get me wrong, Waddington is more than adequate for to break the current land record, and we have other suitable venues for ice and water lined up, but between the thousands of you reading this, surely we can shed some light on the most perfect locations worldwide, where we could push the vehicles to their absolute maximum?

I am sure Dirtboat and others will argue in favour of Nevada, but in my research you can count on one hand those opportunities in the last three years when the wind has blown over 25kts and the surface is suitable. Runways are great but short and often orientated in the wrong direction. I know there are some great areas in South America, but can not find anyone who has experienced them, but as for the rest of the world? There must be places, which have a high traction surface and reliable crosswinds, or am I just dreaming????

Ice has similar problems, with the majority of ice sailors using lakes with thin ice that is subject to pressure ridges or cracking, while I know there are lakes in much colder areas with thicker, more reliable ice and very strong winds, but little known about sailing there?

As for water, the South of France, Sandy Point Australia and Portland harbour can not be the only places in the world to go speed sailing....

Open to all ideas from lakes to oceans, no country is out of reach!!!

Over to you.......
