Richard thanks for kicking off this debate! It will be interesting to see what the outcome/suggestions are. I know that I am not alone when I say that my interests in the the WindJet are personnel! I like many other visitors to your sight have my own concept for the ultimate speed machine on Land, Ice, and Water and have wondered the same thing; where can I take this craft for the best conditions? I have no suggestions but want to throw out something interesting when it comes to water. A year ago or so the company I work for built NASA a satellite bus for the JPL instrument called a Scaterometer. The satellite is called "QuickScat". The satellite is up and flying and uses radar to look at the small ripples (not the waves) on the surface of ANY body of water. The frequency of the ripples indicates very accurately the speed of the wind. They construct models and animations of the data that are very interesting to watch, especially if you know a hurricane is underway. Take a moment and visit this site http://winds.jpl.nasa.gov/ and download a mpeg of the world winds or follow the links for closer/local views. These kinds of databases can ultimately answer the question for water...I just don't know right now who to ask for the best pointers!

P.S. See you at Ivanpah (Right?) in March and set your marks high so I have some good goals to strive for! Then...watch your backside...
