Addition to the 2 kites and seaglider idea: - It can jibe in midair probably. You turn the kites simultanuously to the other site. - The bigger the difference between the windspeed at the level of the high and the level of the low kite, the more you can get upwind. Jon can probably calculate how high the difference needs to be to sail with sidewind. I'm very curious if this difference is common and how much difference in height you need for that. - The hull/fusilage needs to have a normal daggerboard for the time it has contact with the water. - And of course it needs two small sidehulls on the tips of the wings. - To prevent the kitelines of the 2 kites getting tangled when sailing normal you can hold the lower kite under a higher angle than the high kite. - Getting the kites up will be difficult: Probably SKYSAIL has good solutions for that. - I find it very difficult to predict how stable it will be. In turbulence or windvariations especially the lower kite can give a "bumpy" ride I believe. But maybe the wings of the glider can soften that. I'm still very curious for Jon's further idea's and sketches...
