I have a hard time believing that these sternsteerers went that fast 70 years ago. sounds more like folklore . Why does'nt anyone prove they can do it today with modern tecnology( radar guns and gps ect.The electrical timing devices at Indy may not of been designed to operate in - 50 below temperatures either. I see Guinness world records does'nt back the claim anymore either. The fastest speeds I've heard of is around 120 mph. at the leward mark in skeeter class. The police were clocking them with a radar gun. Also I read somewhere Ron sherry went about 90 mph in a dn. You would think that by know someone would have more proof that ice boats can go 150 mph especially a skeeter which is way faster and efficient than a stern steerer after all its been 70 years since the claim.
