Your website says the "first official" landsailing speed record was set by Bertrand in France. Actually the landsailing speed record prior to Bertrand was set by a landyacht I owned. At the 1976 NALSA (North American Landsailing Association )America's Landsailing Cup Regatta it was piloted by Nord Embroden, the designer/builder. Nord Embroden's record of 88.4mph(average speed over 1/4mile course), was recognized by NALSA and published in the Guiness Book as the official record for over twenty years. Nord also held the previous record set in 1972 at the first NALSA America's Cup of 62mph in a radical arched solid wing landsailer he borrowed. Prior to that the record was held by the British at approximately 57mph in an event they called the "flying mile". Current NALSA speed records are an instantanous top speeds not average speeds like were used in the 1972 and 1976 records. Good luck with your speed attempts! Jeff Jones
