Ice - Competitors

There are very few teams competing to break the ice speed sailing record. This is simply because relatively few people are within a range of a lake suitable for ice sailing, let alone one suitable for breaking records.

Ice sailing enthusiasts will travel hundreds or even thousands of miles to find ice and hence current 'DN' class ice yachts are relatively easy to transport and assemble.

There are, however, two teams (other than Windjet) with the knowledge and capacity to build and run a large scale ice yacht capable of speeds far in excess of the current DNs;

  • "Insanity" (pilot: Daniel Clapp)
  • "Miss Wisconsin" (pilot: Daniel Kampo)

(Incidentally, "Miss Wisconsin" is also designed to run on land in order to challenge the wind powered land speed record).
