Windjet is a campaign to create the fastest wind powered vehicle on the planet.

During 2008 we will sail on land & ice, challenge the existing land record of 116.7 mph, establish which surface is faster,  and attempt to set a new outright world record. 


Land Record Facts


Windjet Land craft MkII in Action 

 

The Record to break;

  • Land: 116.7 mph (USA) set in 1999

Development so far;

  • 2 Years and 3000 miles of testing on UK Airfields
  • 4 months of desert testing in Nevada, USA
  • 2 months on Salt Lakes in Western Australia

Top Speeds so far;

  • 106 mph on Smith Creek Dry Lake, Nevada
  • 120 mph on Asphalt (not an official record as not done on a natural surface (Nalsa Rules))
  • 90 mph with new craft on salt in Australia
  • Raised the official British land record from 56 mph to 113.4 mph

Project Status;

  • Tried and tested land yacht stored in Reno Nevada.
  • New, ultimate vehicle  constructed (2007) in Western Australia

Windjet Ice Craft MkI in Action 

 

The Record to break;

  • Ice: Highest accurately (GPS) recorded speed is 84 mph, however many higher, unratified claims from the early 1900's

Development so far;

  • 3 Months Ice trials in Canada

Top Speeds so far;

  • During initial trials, snow & poor weather conditions prevented high speeds

Project Status;

  • Ice yacht stored in Reno Nevada, awaiting new blades for the 2008 season.
