High Pressure Frustrates... E-mail
Monday, 08 November 2004

High pressure and light winds have dominated since the Weymouth Speed Week, one month ago. This has meant that since then, we have only been sailing once, in under 10 knots of wind.

Even running with the 30m Naish Kite, pictured left, the craft will not plane in under 12 - 14 knots of wind. This is due to the relatively high drag of the stepped hulls and the tail drag, while in displacement mode. As soon as the craft pops up onto the plane, this drag disappears, so we have no plans to try and optimise the very light wind performance.

The high pressure system, seen below, is forcast to last well into the end of this week. With little to learn sailing in these light winds, the team are spending the time working on the Windjet land vehicle in preparation for some high speed runs during the winter.
