The current wind powered land speed record stands at 116.7 mph (187.7 km/h). The record was set by American, Bob Schumacher, in a 'boat' called the 'Iron Duck' on March 20th 1999. The record location was Ivanpah Dry Lake near Prim, Nevada, USA..

Designed and built by Bob Dill, the duck was steel framed with foam and fibreglass fairings. The driving was shared between Bob Dill and fellow landsailor and friend, Bob Schumacher. On the big wind day of March 20th, they took it in turns to pilot the craft, progressively pushing it harder and harder. Bob Dill's top speed of the day was 113 mph, while Bob Schumacher set the highest speed and new record of 116.7mph
