On the second outing for the new craft, winds were good, infact too good. Averaging 30 mph, gusting 45 mph, this really is the upper wind limit for the vehicle, especially such a new and untested machine. After waiting a few hours for the stongest winds to pass, I took the craft out for a run. Rapid acceleration followed. At 145 km/h, (90 mph) a strong gust heeled the craft, lifting the outrigger to about 40 deg. Upon recovery, the outrigger wheel did not stand up to the hard impact and we are now re-mounting a different wheel.
It is clear that we have to master a few problems with the tail control for the wing. Not having total control of the power generated is not acceptable and this will need to be fixed before higher speeds are reached.
However, all small issues for such a new and radical machine, which has already shown excellent potential performance.
