RAF Waddington in Lincolnshire has been secured as an official test site for the Windjet craft with speed trials taking place in the very near future. One of the largest RAF bases in the country, Waddington is home to the Nimrod and AWACS aircraft.
The 10,000 ft runway at RAF Waddington is just long enough to reach
record speeds. The craft is optimised for acceleration and reaches 100
mph from a standing start in just under one mile. This will allow about 10 - 15 seconds at top speed before having to stamp on the brakes!
