Web Browser oddities.. E-mail
Wednesday, 05 January 2005

It has been brought to our attention that some web browsers are having problems displaying all the images on the new Windjet web site. This is due to security settings on the browser preventing images being downloaded as they are thought to be advertising. Read on to find out how to view the site in its full glory!!...

The problem stems from security software such as Norton Antivirus or Zone Alarms, etc, which can insert an additional level of security, on top of the browser defaults. One of these settings prevents images being displayed, which are thought to be advertising. Hence, any image with a company logo in it may be blocked while it may not be obvious that it is missing from the screen.

This is not very helpful when images of the Windjet craft include company logos, crucial to the funding of Windjet, which relies on commercial sponsorship. If you do have this setting activated, you will have problems on many web sites and not just windjet.co.uk.

How do I know if have this problem?

On the Windjet website you should see a randomly selected Windjet sponsor logo below the menu on the left side of the screen. If you don't see it you will also not see many other images on the site.

The Solution

You need to disable the 'Privacy' function in your security software for the particular browser that you are using. Each security package will differ and you may need to read the instructions to find where the Privacy function is located. Turning off Privacy will keep the anti-virus and firewalls in place but enable your browser to display advertising and have limited communication with web sites.

Windjet Webmaster Advice:

Get Firefox. Firefox is a new opensource browser which is fully 'web standard compliant'. It is the clearest and most user-friendly of all the browsers and is in no way related to Microsoft.
