Windjet Land craft leaves for Nevada... E-mail
Wednesday, 16 February 2005

Today, the Windjet land craft was delivered to Southampton Docks at the start of the long journey to North America. The purpose of the expedition is officially challenge the current, USA held, outright land sailing record of 116 mph.

The Windjet land craft has been on record ready status for two winters (the best time of year for wind) here in the UK at RAF Waddington. Although we have exceeded record speeds in testing, it has proved impossible to perform in front of timing officials due to the unreliable British weather.

Therefore, the time has come to accept the enevitible and travel to where the current record was set, to challenge the holders on their own soil, or dirt as it may be!

The craft will be arriving in LA on the 15th March and going straight to the desert to begin trials. There are a number of possible locations available, depending on the weather and surface conditions, which will be checked closer to the time. We do however, plan to be at the 'America's Cup' land sailing event at Ivanpah from the 20 - 25 March.

See Nalsa.org for more details on the America's Cup event and directions to Ivanpah.
