There
are a handful of locations around the globe which offer conditions suitable
for setting a World Speed Sailing Record. Generally speaking, an ideal
location is a beach with a reliable off-shore wind, sheltering the water
from the wind and creating smooth water conditions. A number of locations
have already been identified in line with these properties, such as Sandy
Point (Australia) where the current sailing record was set, the 'French
Trench' - a long, straight canal in the Carmargh built solely for speed
sailing - and areas on the Norfolk coast in the east of England.
As
with land and ice conditions, we welcome suggestions as to other potential
record locations.
