This weekend I made the journey to Lake Lefroy for the first time, however, on this occasion without Windet. We are waiting for a few final components to be finished before taking it out there towards the end of this week.
It was a superb opportunity to meet the locals and experience a salt lake for the first time, and quite an experience it was! The first thing to hit you is the sheer size of the lake, with straight line runs of 6-10 miles available.
The surface is also intriguing, as it varies accross the lake, depending on local moisture, etc. The good news is that the majority of the surface is just great; larger, flatter and smoother than any other lake I have sailed on, while also providing more traction (which is good news!)
Paul Day (one of the Pacrim organisers), who has been enormously helpful, kindly
lent me a boat, and together we set off to get to know the lake.
Covering over 20 miles in the next few hours, superb. The only issue is the salt spray from the tyres, which at times makes visibility, well, interesting!
Fortunately, this will not be an issue for Windjet as the wheels are completely enclosed.
