Landyachting can be traced back to Pharaonic Egypt, where early land sailers were apparently built for leisure, but the first recorded races were on the beaches of Belgium and France in 1909. At the same time, landyachts were used to transport goods on dry-lakes in the USA and Australia.

Land yacht competitors are now spread throughout the world, from the vast beaches of Western Europe, New Zealand and Brazil, to dry-lake surfaces in the USA, Argentina, Australia and Africa

There are many different styles and classes of land yacht. Below is the BloKart, which is the smallest and most popular 'one design' in the world.
