Windjet Team Moves Lake
The
recent
snow and freezing rain experienced by Ghost Lake, west of Calgary
(Alberta)
have made conditions unworkable for the Windjet team in the short
term.
Since the team are only in Canada for a limited time due to funding
restrictions,
time is of the essence and hence the team have had to search for a
new
location for the ice speed record.

|
After
scouting another half dozen lakes in southern Alberta, the
team
happened upon St Mary's Reservoir - an irrigation lake to the
south
west of Lethbridge, only 50 miles (80 km) north of the US
border.
This part of the country boasts outstanding winds with a
large number
of wind turbines and wind farms in the Pincher Creek region.
Coupled
with the size of the reservoir and the current ice
conditions, St
Mary's currently provides the team the greatest chance of
capturing
the 143 mph (229 km/h) record.
|
| Hence,
the team have packed up the vehicle from Ghost Lake for the
time being
and moved south to St Mary's where the ice conditions appear
much
more conducive to high speed ice sailing. |
